From 1972 - for publishing houses of Latvia (translation of short stories, poems, novels, literary critical articles etc. from English into Latvian and from Latvian into English; for the Ministries of Economics, Justice, Foreign Affairs, Welfare and Finance; for the Ventspils City Council, the Ventspils Free Port Authority, companies “Ventspils Nafta”, “Ventbunkers”, Noord Natie N.V. (Antwerp) etc.; for the President of Latvia (1997-1998); for the Latvian TV, the RBS TV Channel; for the Latvian Chamber of Commerce; for UN, ILO, UNDP, UNDCP, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNCHR, EU, EC, World Bank, EBRD etc. international institutions.
Research publications:
1 monograph (“Issues of Translation Studies. Theory and Practice”. – 2009, Ventspils Augstskola, 264 p.)55 research publications in total (sociolinguistics, ESP, translation studies), 42 of them have appeared in the last 10 years (2000 – 2010),19 of these 42 have appeared in publications included in the Latvian Council of Science' s list of generally acknowledged and internationally reviewed publications (to have at least 5 publications of this level is an obligatory requirement for an accademic to be elected a full [or University] Professor).
Participation with presentations in conferences: in 36 international conferences, in 13 academic conferences.
Supervision of 50 BA theses and 20 MA theses.
Supervision of 5 PhD Linguistics programme students’ dissertations (3 – since 2009, 2 – since 2010).
Projects:
1. From 1997 – 2004: participation in the Latvian Council of Sciences research project "Latvian Stylistics".
2. From 1999 – 2001: participation in the EU Socrates/Erasmus Intensive Programme project “Contrastive Translation and Interpreting Studies”.
3. From October 2003 – December 2006: Project Coordinator for Ventspils University College and the international research group “Potential of Team Teaching” in a Leanardo da Vinci project “Transferability and Boundary Zones in Content and Language Integrated Learning” (Nr. FIN-03-B-F-LA-160006).
4. From October 2004 – December 2007: Project Coordinator for Latvia and for Ventspils University College in a a Leanardo da Vinci project“Foreign Language Communication on eCommerce websites” (Agreement Nr. 2004 [FIN-04-B-F-LA-160510]).
5. From January 2006 – December 2009: Head of a National Research programme “Letonika” project “Language and Environment” (sub- project “Standardised translation of Latvian culture-specific vocabulary into English, German, French and Russian”).
6. From June 2006 – June 2007: Head of a Leonardo da Vinci mobility project “Enhancement of Professional Skills of Translator Trainers”.
7. From December 2009 – Project coordinator from Latvia in the interlinguistic and intercultural project of Baltic region universities (Sweden, Estonia, Poland, Latvia, Russia, Belorus) “Communicating Entrepreneurship in the Baltic Region”.
8. From May 2010 - subproject leader of the National Research programme "National Identity" subproject "Latvian L-ge as the Native L-ge and Contact L-ge in 21st Century North Courland Cities".
Expert of Higher Education Quality: 1999 – 2009: member of Latvian Higher Education Quality Assessment Centre's international expert commisions of accreditation of higher educational establishemnts and their study programmes, since 2001 – chairman of these commissions. In this period of time 25 BA, MA and PhD study programmes in translation studies, language teaching and philology have been assessed. 2010 - member of an international team assessing 6 HEIs in Lithuania.
